Common Questions
Mask Policy
Marisa has a compromised immune system due to her treatment for MS, and will periodically be wearing a mask throughout the treatment. If you are under the weather, she asks that you reschedule or let her know so that she can put on a mask to be careful. At this point, clients are not required to mask, but if for any reason you would prefer to, feel free to let that be known and your therapist will happily join you!
What happens at the initial session?
Your initial visit will include a discussion of what is bothering you in regard to pain, activity levels, and movement limitations. Tissue condition, posture, and movement will be assessed. The majority of the session is conducted on a treatment table, but may also include sitting, laying or standing while performing a variety of exercises.
What do I wear?
The therapist needs to access your skin, so undressing as you would for a massage is the easiest option. You may always remain in your undergarments if that is more comfortable for you. It also works to wear loose fitting shorts and a sports bra or bikini top (for women) while receiving fascial therapy.
What is the difference between a massage and fascial therapy?
During a massage, lotion is used by the therapist to slide and glide over the surface of the skin. Fascial therapy uses little to no lotion because the goal is to feel deeper restrictions in the body and facilitate a softening or breaking down of restrictions through low load, long duration holds which utilize friction.
How many sessions do I need?
Your body may need a day or two to integrate the fascial work and fully feel the difference. We don’t believe in pushing someone to buy a set number of sessions, but just as with the onset of most pain conditions, the treatments are rarely a one-time fix. The relationship we build with clients is based on what their body needs, what their wallet supports, and the outside effort each client is willing to put in. If you’d like to do more self-treatment, that can help alleviate the frequency with which you need to receive hands-on therapy.
That being said, for very acute/painful conditions, it can be useful to schedule sessions 1-2x weekly until pain levels are manageable. Then clients often come in 1-2x monthly as maintenance or whenever their body starts acting up.
What forms of payment are accepted?
A credit card is needed to book online and reserve the appointment. Square is used for credit card processing. If preferred, cash may be used to pay ahead for future sessions.
What amount should I tip?
Tipping, while appreciated, is not mandatory and can be to the level that a therapist went above and beyond the client expectations. Because our sessions are all booked online and pre-paid, any tips will need to be cash based.
