The Painful Truth
Restricted Fascia
Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds every organ, bone, muscle, and even individual muscle fibers in the human body. Not only does fascial tissue infiltrate and surround the structures we use for posture maintenance and movement, it creates continuity and can hinder or facilitate communication and function within the human system.
The health of our connective tissue is essential to human function. If fascial tissue gets restricted and doesn’t allow glide, we experience pain, muscle and nerve compression, and even restricted blood flow. Restrictions within the fascia can limit body awareness, create pain and postural dysfunction, and limit our ability to move. Current research is finding that restrictions within the fascial system are key components to many painful conditions such as fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, and repetitive stress or overuse injuries.

Myofascial Release
This slow, gentle treatment method utlizes low load, long duration techniques to allow the body to feel safe, release long-held tension patterns, and reduce inflammation. Working on the surface of the skin without lotion, your body’s natural healing processes are stimulated and the tissue is never forced.

Jaw Pain & Chronic Headaches
Fascial restrictions can play a huge part in jaw pain, popping, and misalignment. Restrictions throughout the muscles of the head, face, neck, and shoulders can make chronic headaches more intense and frequent. Try a Focused Fascial massage to experience relief.
Upper Body Stress Relief
Most of us are in a constant state of stress. So much so, that it can be difficult to switch the nervous system out of the “fight or flight” response. With the use of lymphatic, myofascial, and massage techniques, your body can finally reach a much needed state of relaxation. That means better digestion, breathing, and sleep!
Lymphatic Drainage
Blocked lymph pathways in the body can be responsible for chronic pain and even swelling or puffiness in the limbs. Lymphatic massage is useful for inflammation in the body, pre & post surgical recovery, and tissue healing.

Feel safe, be heard
Your fascial system forms a sort of dynamic web, connected from head to toe. Injury in one area can have widespread effects on your entire body. It is essential to treat the body as a whole in order to optimize healing. Dr. Marisa VanDyke is an occupational therapist and massage therapist who has worked treating fascial dysfunction of mature bodies since 2016. She has overcome her own chronic pain and manages a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis with the fascial treatments she provides the public.
